Wise choice: check the status of your teen’s wisdom teeth this holiday season!

November 7, 2024

Do you have a teenager away in college?  Heading to college?  Fall and winter breaks from school make for an excellent time to have your child’s wisdom teeth evaluated when they are home from school.

Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, are the most posterior teeth that form in the mouth.  Notoriously, these teeth do not have enough space to erupt fully in the mouth and can cause painful infections and crowding if they do not grow into the mouth correctly.  There is typically an ideal time to have these teeth surgically removed with an oral surgeon, often in the late teen years.

If your college student is home, consider having them come in for a standard, panoramic image to have their wisdom teeth evaluated for extraction.  Appropriate planning can prevent pain and discomfort while your student is away from home without their local dental care.

At Longboard Dental, we refer to numerous excellent oral surgeons in the area who likely will need a consultation if your teen would like to be sedated for the procedure.  The holidays and school breaks are their busiest times, so appropriate planning makes sure your teen will not have delayed care!
